Visit the Camargue<\/h2>

To the east of Lunel, discover Aigues-Mortes and walk around the city of Saint Louis and its ramparts. Discover unique medieval fortifications and splendid views of the town, the pond, the saltworks and the vineyards.<\/p>\n

Further west, stop in the capital of the Camargue: Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer.<\/p>\n

Small village nestled in the Camargue between the Rh\u00f4ne and the Mediterranean. A land of hospitality, pilgrimage and tradition. The village of Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer offers a complete change of scenery with its whitewashed houses and its many restaurants where you can taste the specialities of the region. For those who want a general view of Les Saintes, go to top of the church Notre-Dame-de-la-Mer<\/a> (about 50 steps to climb). The view of the village, the sea and the arena is sublime.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Taste the salt of the Camargue<\/h2>

We know the Camargue bull, its bird sanctuary and its pink flamingos. But it is also here that the Master Salt Makers of the Camargue use their expertise to produce sea salt and especially Fleur de Sel de Camargue ancestral know-how<\/strong>. At the foot of the ramparts of Aigues-Mortes, the mountains of sea salt (camelles) bear witness to an agricultural activity that respects the environment and the Mediterranean flora and fauna.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Attend a Camargue Ferrade<\/h2>

The Ferrade Camarguaise, a tradition that has become a real spectacle over the years, consists, as its name suggests, of branding an anouble (yearling calf) after having put it away from the herd by chasing it at full gallop. This marking has been done by all bull owners since the dawn of time. The participants on horseback are called Gardians. The manoeuvre usually requires reinforcements to chase the anouble, and so there are often 4 Gardians. One of them must then strike the anouble on the hip with a trident to bring it down. Once subdued by the guests, it will be escorted and then marked both on the left thigh where the mark of its owner will be found and on the flank where its number will be indicated.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>
